10-30-06: Hi. I am sick, Hobs is sick, Hollie is sick, we are all sick. We can't breath, we are coughing, and miserable. I don't really feel like updating today, so please forgive me. Not that it is that hard to update the site, I just don't really have the desire to string together a serious of cognitive thoughts. So, sorry it is short this week. We had a good weekend considering. We watched the UT game. There is nothing that makes me happier than thinking about thousands of dejected Tech fans leaving Jones stadium in Lubbock after watching their beloved red raiders being beat by their imaginary rival Longhorns. Yesterday, we went to the mall and had some family pics made, and Hobs had his 6 month photos done. I will post those this week as soon as they are available (if I can). That is about it. See you all next week. Check back in a couple days for those pics.
10-23-06:Hello everyone. I hope everyone had a good week/weekend. Ours was pretty good. Last week went well. I did well on my stats test, so that started the week off on a good foot. The rest of the week kinda flew by. My parents came into town this weekend to spend some time with Hobs. They kept him while we went to small group on Friday night. Saturday, we all got up and watched the UT game, then we all loaded up and went to the pumpkin patch. There, we met Hollie's mom, brother, Linda, and Hollie's nieces and nephews. It was a lot of fun. Well, I guess as much fun as you can have on in a field full of dirt, hay, thousands of people, dogs, other assorted wildlife, pumpkins, port-o-potties, screaming kids, etc. That night, we went to Penny's and cooked out. There, Hobs got to have his first real meal. He had cereal for the first time, and did a great job with it. We got a lot of good pics from the weekend. They are HERE. Also, we got a short video of his meal, it is HERE. I know I promised this week's update to be a little more exciting, but it is not. So, I will add in a little realization that hit sometime yesterday. Sometimes while I am watching TV, I will stop to watch crap on MTV and other stations like Real World, Laguna Beach, and other shows that I am far too old to be watching. A lot of the time while I am doing this, I think to myself "man, I am just not cool." Yesterday, I was sitting in church, looking at the youth group, and had that same thought. But then, I looked at everyone around me. Hollie and I have officially moved to the "families" section of the auditorium most Sundays. I looked around at all the families and thought, you know, this is exactly where I want to be right now. I don't think I could be happy living the life that some other people my age live. I am happy doing what I do. I have a great family, an awesome job, and a reasonable bed time. That is enough for me. So, while some 28 year olds are out at 1:00 AM listening to screaming people and loud music, I am listening to a screaming baby monitor. While other 28 year olds are running around in their underwear at 1:00 AM doing things that cannot be mentioned on this family friendly site, I am sitting in my underwear in a rocking chair with a snoring 6-month old on my chest, feeling a string of drool running down my torso and pooling on my stomach. But hey, that is ok with me.
Sorry, that turned out to be more girly and sappy than exciting. Oh well, see you all next week.
10-16-06: Good morning. Happy Monday to everyone (as happy as it gets). We had a good weekend. It was more productive than relaxing, but good all the same. Friday night, we were dropping Hobs off at Penny's so he could chill with Grammy for a bit while we were at small group. Well, Hollie started feeling a little sick, so she decided to take a hot bath since we had about an hour to kill (and no, we are not pregnant). Well, she started to feel worse, so I told her to stay there while I went to small group. On my way out the door, I heard the distinct sound of throwing up (hopefully no one is eating breakfast as they read this). Anyway, she was sick the rest of the night, so we decided to go ahead and stay at Penny's instead of trying to make the drive home with her sick. She started feeling a little better Saturday, so we went home. I spent most of that day working around the house. I cleaned the flowerbeds, where I lost a war with a bed of fire ants. I then mowed the lawn, and then dedicated the rest of the morning and most of the afternoon to the garage. It was not a glamorous day, but one that needed to be done. Yesterday I watched football all day while Hollie went to a baby shower for one of our friends. So, that was our exciting weekend. I don't know how we can keep up with all this excitement at our age. Not too much else interesting going on in our world, sorry it's not too exciting, I know this update is the highlight of many of your weeks, so I will try to spice it up next week. Oh yeah, I realized this week that the guestbook has not been working, I am not sure how long it has been down, but it should be fine now. I will blame that on the lack of comments lately, surely it is not because we are just so boring . . . .Until next week, adios. (10/17/06) I just added some pics from the last week. They are HERE.
10-9-06: Hello everyone. I hope everyone had a good weekend. Ours was not too bad. Hollie and Hobs are feeling better, so that is good. Our weekend was fairly uneventful. Friday we had small group. Saturday, we got up early and cleaned up the house. We had some friends over to watch UT beat up on the toothless hillbilly sooners. After that, I took great pleasure in watching Tech get their butts handed to them at home by Mizzou. It was a good football weekend (well, college football at least). Yesterday, we went to church, then had to leave early to go to another church. Hollie's friend that she used to work with had a daughter that was being baptized, so we went to that. It is always interesting going to other churches that do things so differently than we are used to (but don't worry, we still went to the good ol' C of C that morning, so we are still saved!). After that, we went to her 1 year b-day party. I guess it had to happen sometime. We are officially now part of the "going to toddler's bday" club. I guess it has been a while since I have been to a 1 year old's b-day party, and the first time I have ever been as an actual parent of a "toddler." Most of the time I just sat on the couch and rocked back and forth, trying to ignore the chaos around me of the 8 boys and 1 girl running around throwing things. Occasionally I would crawl into the fetal position and suck my thumb at the sound of a slamming door or a crying child that was not mine, mostly because I realized that I have years of this sort of thing to come. I guess I know why they were serving alcohol at this party. It was the only way some of them knew how to cope with their surroundings. But Hollie and I toughed it out the old fashioned way, sober and smiling. Actually the party was really nice, and we had a pretty good time. Anyway, I had my first stats test tonight, so I spent the rest of Sunday night studying. I had today off, which was awesome. We got up, and finished studying, then we just hung out. We took a walk around our newly filled lake in our neighborhood (filled only 3 years after scheduled completion!), which wore us all out. So, I took a nap this afternoon, then drove into good 'ol Arlington for my test. It was tough, so I am really interested to see how I did. We bought Hobs a new bath seat so he could sit up in the bath. He loves it. We took a video of him, it is HERE. That is about it for now, talk to you next week.
10-2-06: Well it’s Hollie again with an update on the weekend from my perspective. As far as weekends go this one had the potential to be absolutely wonderful….there was so much promise in Friday night – Saturday and Sunday to do nothing but have wonderful family time and just relax….and then life happened.
Friday I had lunch with a friend and had to go up to the school for a little while – Mom kept Hobs for me…He needed some “Grammy” time – and she needed some Hobs time…. Shortly after lunch I went to pick him up and started to feel not so great… I had chills and a sore throat – but thought well its just sinus no biggie… Well by the time I got home Friday night I thought death was knocking at my door. I had Stephen meet me at the car to get Hobs – and I shuffled into the house proceeded upstairs to take my temp and put on my PJ’s. I crashed on the daybed for about 30 min before Stephen said get up we are going to the doctor… I didn’t argue – and that alone was enough to tell me that I was sick (I am a firm believer in toughing it out if you can). So I went back upstairs to get a sweatshirt and took my temp one more time….it was 102 (normal for me is like 96)…so I was like ok Stephen has a pretty good idea here. We called mom to see if she would come and sit with Hobs so we wouldn’t have to take him into the “sick ward” – and of course she did. The doc listened to my heart and asked me if I had a heart murmur (WHAT – NO???? WHY???)… I told her no – and she said that it could just be my infection that was causing the murmur….as it turned out I had a terrible infection – so she gave me a prescription and we were on our way…. That pretty much was Friday night…. I came home and crashed and Stephen took Hobs duty. We both fell asleep in the living room and woke up around midnight…..I was wide awake and so was Stephen – so we decided to start our Lost rental… We ended up watching an entire episode before we went to sleep. We went to sleep shortly after it ended…and shortly after that Hobs woke up. Since I was sick Stephen had all duties to himself – I felt pretty worthless not being able to help him…But Stephen is the best dad and never complained or skipped a beat. Saturday I slept in a bit – and dozed on the couch most of the morning – I started to feel a little more like a human and a little less like an alien invaded my body after lunch…so that was nice and a welcomed feeling. Stephen and Hobs went to church on Sunday – and left me at home to rest. I slept most of the morning again – and yesterday afternoon I really started to feel like myself again.
Even though we had all the drama of me being sick on our first weekend to actually be at home and have nothing to do...we still managed to have a pretty great weekend (and Stephen and I finished the second season of Lost so we are all ready for Wednesday’s Premier…WHOO HOO).
Hobs has a terrible runny nose and is so congested – I decided to take him to the doctor just to be on the safe side (I don’t want him to get what I had). So we went to visit our favorite Pedi this am - as it turns out Hobs has his first ear infections (yes plural….both ears and infected!)! He has yet to complain about it – I simply wanted to take him in because his nose was so runny and he couldn’t breath. Our doc said we caught it before it got bad and that it was a good thing that I brought him in! WHEW – and score one for me! I feel like I might have actually done something right! LOL! I try really hard not to be a crazy first time mom – but to make good sound choices – WHEW I think I did that in this instance.
Well I guess that is about it for our weekend – I think we are all on the upswing from being the sickly household. 2 out of the 3 of us are on antibiotics – so hopefully we are going to wipe this mess out and move on!
The Lost season premier is this Wednesday….We can hardly wait!
Well I gotta go – Hobs is pretty much done with me being on the computer….he is needing some mom time – so that is what I am off to do. Hope you all have a great week!
How many view of weekly news this week.
