Here's what's going on in our lives (if you care):

August 2006

8-28-06: Hello everyone. I hope everyone is having a good Monday. I am in very high spirits today, mainly because yesterday we got to be a part of an American institution that has been an intricate part of our culture and civilization for the past 25 years. That’s right, yesterday for 5 hours, we were given the opportunity to witness pure greatness. Yesterday afternoon we found ourselves sitting in the presence of a true American icon; we were able to attend a live taping of “Wheel of Fortune.” That’s right, try to contain your envy and jealousy. We mailed off for tickets a couple months ago when we saw that they were going to be in Dallas, and we got them. We watched 3 shows being taped, and it took around 5 hours. As fun as it was, I will say that I think the maximum amount of live “Wheel” a person can take is definitely right around the 3 episode mark, because if I had to see another show being taped, I might have just had to kill someone. 5 hours is a lot of wheel spins.

Hollie had Women of Faith this weekend in Dallas, so Hobs and I drove into downtown and stayed at the hotel with her Friday night, then we came back Saturday and just hung out at the house while Hollie was finishing up there. We spent Friday night at Penny’s, mainly because we were in the pool late that night and decided we didn’t want to wake up the baby to drive home.

Anyway, things are going pretty well. We are still pretty busy, trying to get Hollie finished up at Cingular. I start my classes tonight at UTA, so Mondays and Tuesdays will be tough on us for a while ‘till Hollie is able to stay home all day on Mondays. Hobs is doing well. He had his 4 month appointment today, so he had to have some shots (not all of them though, don’t forget that we are hippies and don’t allow our baby to be juiced up with too much poison at one time). College football starts this week, which is the best time of the year. I am so excited again this year for UT to start playing again. I will have to watch the game over at Penny’s this Saturday on Tivo because my fantasy football draft is Saturday morning when the game starts. We will actually be over at Penny’s a lot this weekend since she is having the whole family over for Labor Day.

That is about it for now. I am getting back into the hang of things at work. I much prefer elementary kids. They actually think I am somewhat cool (somewhat being the key word there). They are a lot more fun to work with a majority of the time, and none of them call me gay, so that is already an advantage over working at a Middle School (see my June updates if you don’t know what I am talking about. I don’t feel like recalling this painful memory again in detail, I don’t know if my ego can take reliving it). Plus, for the most part, I can control elementary kids who are attacking me, as opposed to the bigger kids; they can do some real damage. I am not what you would exactly call “tough,” so large aggressive people are not high on my list of favorite things. Oh well, that’s about all. I put a couple more pics of Hobs on the pics page. They are HERE. Also, the video page has really been having some trouble lately, so I had to do some work on it and take out the actually pictures of most of the videos. If you couldn’t see the video from last week, check back now and see if it works. It is HERE. If you still can’t see it, please email me and let me know. That’s it – see you all next week.

8-21-06: Hello. I hope everyone had a good week and weekend. I suppose ours was fairly uneventful. We have mainly just been trying to keep up with our schedules for the past week. Hollie has started teaching her pre-k class, but she is also continuing at Cingular for a few weeks on her off days to help them transition. That means she is driving a lot and sleeping a little. She is fairly stressed by it, but I think once we can get our schedule down, things won't be so wheels-off for us. I have been back and forth to the great city of Arlington for the past week trying to get things taken care of for school. Now that I have spent the equivalent of a 3rd world country's budget on books, and made my trip to the Arlington Wal-Mart for supplies (which ironically reminds me of being in a 3rd world country), I think I am ready to begin the 5 year process of torture and pain to hopefully get my Ph.D. I went to orientation last week and listened to the faculty and some 2nd year students try to scare us to death by telling us how much work it would be, and how some of us won't make it, but how glad they are to have us there. It actually turns out that I will be starting the program with someone that  went to LCU with, so that will be cool. Oh well, classes start next Monday, so I will have that to look forward to all week.

The house is still getting showings pretty much every weekend, but of course, no one is buying just yet. Oh well, it will happen I am sure, probably when moving would be the most inconvenient, but that is how things usually go. We really don't care, we are just ready to move in a little closer so we are not spending most of our time in the car.

Hobs is doing well. If you know me, you know that for most of my life I have had really bad toes. Well, unfortunately, I think Hobs may be following in my painful footsteps. Sunday, we noticed he had a really bad infected toe nail. So, yesterday Hollie took him to the Dr. It is a ton better today, but it was painful to look at. He is 16 lbs 9 oz. as of yesterday. The Dr. said his growing has slowed down, but he is still normal. He has really been enjoying his excersaucer lately, so I put a short video of him HERE.

That is about all I can think of off the top of my head. Sorry this wasn't too terribly entertaining. Have a good week.

8-14-06: Well, another school year has started.  The kids came back today. It was a pretty good first day; I only had to carry one kid out of class, and only got punched once. I am sure the action will pick up later in the week as the kids settle and feel a little more comfortable. Anyway, today was Hobs' first day at his new sitters. Hollie had a really emotional day, but I think Hobs enjoyed it. There was apparently a hot baby girl there that he was putting the moves on, and she didn't push him away. He did blow out his diaper when he first got there, but I don't think she really minded that much.

I registered for school last week, and start on the 28th. I have orientation this week, so we will see how that goes. I hate Arlington, so it will be really fun driving there twice a week. Anyway, I am just ready to get this thing rolling so I can see how rough it's gonna be.

We had a family reunion this weekend on Hollie's side, and it was fun seeing all those people that we haven't seen in a while. We didn't take near as many pictures as we should have, but those that we did take are HERE. Hollie has been working late in her new classroom, so it has just been Hobs and me for a couple nights. My mom was here last week, and that was a great help. Hollie is actually going to be working both jobs for a few weeks to help Cingular transition into the new person coming in. Oh well, that is about it for now. I am sure there is a ton more going on, but I really can't think of it right now, I am too busy laughing at Hobs lying here snoring next to me. But, it's bath time, so I better run. I have an appointment with a naked little boy (hopefully that is a sentence I will never type again). See ya'll next week.

In case you didn't check it, I did update the site late last week, so that is below too.

8-10-06: Hello again everyone. It seems like forever since I have updated the site. Anyway, a ton has happened since last we talked, so I will just hit the highlights. July flew by. I had a blast taking care of Hobs for the Summer. We didn't really do anything that extraordinary, just hung out. Penny moved into her house in Plano, so we spent a lot of time over there helping her out. It is a great house, and it will be nice to have a pool and hot tub that is not shared by the community where we have to fight off 8 year old girls with more belly hair than me, while wearing a "Hello my name is drunk" shirt to get onto the slides.

Anyway, a couple weeks ago, we went to the Kelly Clarkson concert. Hollie got some free tickets from work, so we thought there would be nothing better than to go sit out on the grass in 104 degree weather moving 8 year old girls out of the way to see the stage. It really wasn't that bad. Well, I guess not that bad, considering we sat next to what apparently was a reunion of every homosexual man in the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. They thought that instead of singing along with "Miss Independent" they thought it would be better to strip off their shirts (one of which read "Great in Bed") and make out with each other the entire time. It made for a very enjoyable concert watching experience. Throughout the entire ordeal, the only thing I could think of was "is that really how that kid at Summer School saw me, like one of these guys?"

I have posted 3 new sets of pictures. Some of us, Penny, and Alexys and Jake bowling HERE. I put on our 4th of July pics too, HERE. Finally, I just put a bunch of random pics of us and Hobs HERE.

Anyway, I saved our biggest news for last I guess. After a lot of prayer, and a lot of thinking, we have taken a huge leap of faith and Hollie has decided to quit her job. She has accepted a part time job teaching pre-k at North Texas Christian Academy. She will be working 3 days a week, which will allow her to be home with Hobs the other 2 days, as well as Summers and holidays with me. We are both really excited about this. She has been staying up at her classroom at night, and will start officially next Wednesday. Oh well, that's it for now, have a good week.
