April 2007

4-30-07: Well, it is hard to believe Hobs has been around for a year now. A year ago, my first post after he was born said "Hobs finally came, and he is perfect." Well, a year later, I would still have to agree with that statement. He is perfect. I can't explain what a blessing he has been to us. The last year has been the best of my life, by far. People always say "you just can't explain how it is to have a kid until you have one." As cliché' as that is, it is true. He is awesome. Anyway, we had his party yesterday. It went great. We had a lot of friends there, and Hobs had a great time. He got a ton of stuff, which is all still in the living room. Hollie did an amazing job, as always, in preparing the food, and the cake. I put pictures of everything HERE. Be warned, there are a TON of pics there, so be prepared to take some time to look at them, there are some good ones there.

After the party, Hobs passed out for a while. He woke up late from his nap, so he wasn't ready for bed until late. I stayed up late too watching the Mavs embarrass the city of Dallas. Otherwise, life goes on as normal today. I have my stats final tonight, which I am probably very under prepared for. We will see. I am usually a pretty good test take, let's hope those skills don't fail me now. Tomorrow is my last class for the semester, then I get a month off before I start my co-teaching for the Summer. That's about it for now. Thanks for checking in. Just for nastalgia, I put a picture of him exactly a year apart below.

4-23-07: Good morning everyone. Not a whole lot new going on in our world. We had a good weekend. Friday, we went to Waco to see Hollie's dad and for him to see Hobs for his birthday. We drove back Saturday night. Yesterday, we pretty much just hung out at Penny's all day. It was pretty nice. We sat around and Hobs got to play outside a long time, which was good. We cam home long enough last night for me to see the Mavs lose.

School is winding down for me. Just one week left after this one. I have a final in stats next Monday, then my final research proposal due in my other class on Tuesday. Our stats teacher wants us all to come back the following week to finish up the lecture we won't be able to cover before the final, but other than that I am almost done.

My ankle is still being a very large inconvenience. Apparently, it is not healing as fast as they thought it would, so Wednesday I have to go see an orthopedic surgeon. He will tell me that there is nothing really to do but wait, so I am sure that will just be a waste of money.

That is about it for now. Hobs' big party is this Sunday. I know he is very excited. It should be a lot of fun, we will have pics next week. Just think, a year ago today we were stressed out from all the unwarranted advice. Ah, memories.

4-16-07: Hello again. Not a lot new in our world. I am still gimpy. This stupid ankle is taking a lot longer to heal up than I thought. I originally thought 4-5 days to get back to semi-mobility, but this morning I realized that crutches are still very much needed for work. I walked on it some yesterday with my cool boot on, but today the pain was back to let me know that was not such a good idea. So, back on the crutches. My toes have turned a nice shade of dark purple, but the swelling has gone down some.

Saturday I had a conference, then we all went to a couple from our class at church's house for dinner. It was  a lot of fun. Yesterday, we went to church, then home, and slept a good part of the day. We noticed last night that our cat has developed a limp in the last 24 hours, and we don't know why. We are hoping it is just something in her paw that she can get out on her own, because there is no way she is letting us touch it. Other than that, she is acting fine, so we are hoping that she isn't too hurt. We will give it a day or two and take her to the vet if it isn't better. We are gearing up for Hobs' first b-day. The only problem is, the yard is out of control. The back yard is over taken by weeds (thanks to the joker we bought the house from who never took care of it), and our flower beds are in need of some grass removal as well. I may, for the first time every, actually have to pay to have someone come do the yard work. I have always vowed not to do that, but the time may have dome. There is no way I can really get out there and push the mower with my boot on, and can't really use a shovel in the flower beds, so I may have to sell out and get me a good yard man. So depressing. Oh well, that is about it for now.

On a side note, some of you may know my very good friend David. Well, David's dad is in the late stages of his battle with cancer. If anyone knows David, you know he would do anything in the world to help someone out, whether he knows you or not. The least I can do is help him out now with whatever I can. He has created a blog for his dad. It is www.robertrains.blogspot.com

I know he would appreciate the prayers and comments on the site if you have the time. Thanks in advance.

4-9-07: Hola. I am typing as I sit here crippled and feeling old and out of shape. I rolled my ankle playing basketball Saturday. It hurt. I went up for a shot, then came down wrong and it rolled, popped several times, and I was down for the count. It swelled right away. I went to the Dr. and had it x-rayed. No break, just a bad sprain. They gave me crutches (I declined the boot). I iced it for the rest of the day. Sunday morning it wasn't terribly swollen, just really sore and stiff. I elected to ditch the crutches, and shoved it into a shoe and hobbled to church. It really wasn't that bad, as long as I walked very gingerly. I took it easy yesterday, stayed off of it and kept it up. Well, last night when I unwrapped it, I had thought the swelling had subsided a bit in my ankle. Upon further examination from my wife, I realized that the swelling my my ankle was the same, but instead, my foot had swelled up to match it. This morning it was worse. I couldn't get it into a shoe at all, so now I am back on the crutches at work. My toes are beginning to turn purple, which matches my ankle now. It is very gross to look at, and feels like it is about to explode. How fun this is. My foot looks like it belongs to a 600 pound man.

Anyway, other than that our weekend was great. Brett and Amy drove in Thursday night, and we stayed up talking till about 3:30 (they didn't get in until 2:30). Friday morning, Hollie cooked breakfast, then the girls and Hobs went to have lunch with Shelley, and Brett and I watched the Rangers game. The 2 guys then went to the Stars game that night. Saturday, I got up and took Brett and Amy to meet his parents, then went to play basketball (which we all know how that ended). I then went to Penny's to meet all of Hollie's side for lunch. That afternoon she went shopping and I went to the Dr. and home to finish a research proposal I was working on. Yesterday, we got up and went to church, then to Penny's for the day. I pretty much sat in a chair with my foot up and watched TV all day while Hollie waited on me. Finally, she is getting the hang of the submissive role.

Hobs enjoyed his first Easter. We have some pictures of him, but I don't have them with me. I will work on getting those up next week. I hope you all had a good Easter. Happy anniversary to my parents today . . . 36 years! What a good example they have been to me . . . I am truly blessed to have them as my parents.

4-2-07: Wow, is it really already April? It is amazing how fast time goes when you are old. Those of you who are old (Brett) know what I am talking about, but for those of us who are young and spry, it passes pretty quickly too. Nothing too interesting has happened since last week. I got sick and was out from work Thursday. I am still not feeling great, but that is part of life I guess. Hobs is doing well. Getting ready for the big birthday. I know it is cliché' and every parent says this, but it really is amazing at how fast things go. He is doing so much these days. He is on the verge of walking. He says a few words, some of which are actually functional to a point. He saw mama and dada (but not in response to us, just in his random babbling). He can repeat the words geek, die, cat, and a few others. He says dog (or something close to that) when he sees Kevin (our dog). He will also go to the back door when it is open, pull himself up, and start whistling (or blowing air and spit through his lips while attempting to whistle) when he doesn't see the dog. He drank from a straw for the first time last night. He eats like a champ, can throw a ball, has both front teeth on the top and bottom now, signs the word "more" when he is eating and wants more, drinks from a regular cup, dances when he hears music. etc. He is a pretty entertaining guy. I know I promised pictures this week. Hollie has a new swanky camera, and has been taking hundreds of pics with it. I put a bunch on a disk last night, but now the computer I am on won't read that disk (stupid 4GB SD card). I will put them on tonight and have them up tomorrow, I promise. I have one here with me that is really good: I will link the rest of the pics to it when they are up, so click on this picture to see if they are up yet. Be sure and hit refresh each time you check to see if they are there, because if you don't, it will never show them. Check back tomorrow, hopefully the rest will be up. Have a good week.
